The claws have come out now that Kristin Cavallari has joined the cast of "The Hills."
Kristen Cavallari has just started filming scenes as Lauren Conrad's replacement on "The Hills," and it appears the newcomer is already creating drama.

Cavallari, who first became known as the bad girl on 2004's "Laguna Beach," made a bad first impression when she recently tried to steal the spotlight at Audrina Patridge's 24th birthday party at L.A.'s London West Hollywood hotel, Starmagazine.com reports.

“Kristin was always making sure to yell out one-liners and hog camera time," says an eyewitness.

When Cavallari began flirting with Patridge's on-and-off boyfriend, Justin "Bobby" Brescia, the birthday girl reportedly lost it.

"Kristin was fake giggling and making it look like she liked him," says a source. "Audrina started yelling at Kristin about how desperate she is and was clapping and yelling, 'Keep it up! You're such a good actress!'"

Adds the source, "Obviously, it’s not material they can use on the show, but Audrina didn’t care.

She wanted to finally tell Kristin what she thought of her."

But Patridge is not the only cast member fuming at Cavallari.

Heidi and Spencer Pratt are also angry about the new addition to the reality show, claiming Cavallari is stealing their spotlight.

"They feel like they worked their butts off for the show, and now Kristin just walks on and becomes the new star,” says a source.

It looks as though there was no worry with Conrad leaving "The Hills", but Kristin Cavallari's addition might put an end to it all.

Kristin Cavallari wants to be taken seriously

Like many young actresses, Kristin Cavallari wants to be taken seriously.
Despite her good looks and party girl persona, the former Laguna Beach star actually is looking for a meaty role -- glamour be damned.

''I want to go dark -- dye my hair and do something really dramatic,'' says Cavallari, who was set to host the Cosmo Bikini Bash on Saturday at Nikki Beach. ''Kind of the way Angelina Jolie did in Changeling, when you go into yourself and really bring it.'' (For the record, Jolie didn't exactly look plain in her Oscar-nominated role of a tortured mother looking for her lost son.)
In the meantime, biding time before Clint Eastwood calls, Cavallari is content doing the films she is offered. Out this summer is the puerile romp Wild Cherry, which she describes as ``American Pie from a girl's point of view.''
``We play seniors in high school who find
something called a Bang Book -- the guys
writing down all the girls they de-virginized,'' she says. ``We turn the tables and start messing with their heads.''

Co-stars include Rumer Willis, Tia Carrere as the principal, and Rob Schneider as a dad (incidentally, the comedian's daughter Elle is also in the flick).
In between moviemaking -- alas, Van Wilder: Freshman Year went straight to video -- Cavallari likes kicking back on our side of the map.

The 22-year-old Denverite attended DJ Irie's launch party for the Gansevoort South in June, and didn't hesitate when Cosmo asked her to party on the beach and oversee Saturday's massive aerial photo shoot this weekend (the babes laid out to spell ''COSMO''; see pics in Tropical Life Style Wednesday).

''Any excuse to go to Miami, I take it. It has such a fun vibe,'' says Cavallari, who will again stay at the Gansevoort and party at Mokai and Mansion.
The trip is short, but she's one of the lucky ones who never gets jet-lagged.
''I always take the first flight out [from L.A.],'' she says. ``But I always sleep on the plane. I can fall asleep anywhere. Couch,
wherever. The minute my head
hits the pillow I'm out.''

Cavallari certainly seems to have grown-up from her "Laguna Beach" days, and told Tarts that she's busy going into pilot season and focusing on a "real career."
"I'm definitely enjoying it, it's tough but much more interesting than reality television," she said. "They keep asking me to go on 'The Hills' and I'm like, no thanks." Ouch.

Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari is done working the small screen, folks. EW.com caught up with the celebrity at the premiere of Keanu Reeves' next movie, Street Kings, where she had plenty to say about her big-screen plans and nothing to report about the possibility of appearing on The Hills, despite rumors to the contrary. “I have been asked to come back by MTV a million times to be on The Hills or Laguna Beach or to do a different reality show, but I am not interested," she says. "I am doing what I want to do so I don’t feel pressure to go back. I keep getting jobs. I feel like been there, done that. I did Laguna Beach for two years and had the best time. I feel like I need stuff that challenges me and another reality show won’t do that.”
So what's Cavallari been up to? She recently starred in a new video for Gavin DeGraw, best known for crooning the One Tree Hill theme song. She also shot a short film that Entourage's Kevin Connolly directed that... well, we'll let her describe: "[It's made up of] nine different short films, and the whole thing is called Uncomfortable Moments. My short is called Dry Humping. It is about two high school kids, my boyfriend and I, who are dry humping when his dad comes home and catches us in the act. They are all really funny short, goofy films."
Cavallari also is set to appear in a beach volleyball movie opposite David Charvet called Green Flash this summer. "That was definitely not a hard job to go to every day. And I am about to go to Canada to shoot a movie. I can’t talk about that yet, though. I’m having a good time!" -- Reporting by Carrie Bell
